AHA Region XII
2009 Endurance Challenge
In a continuing effort to induce the Arabian / Half-Arabian/Anglo Arabian Endurance community to join and participate in the organization which protects and governs the heritage of the very horses that they ride, Region XII of the Arabian Horse Association (www.AHARegion12.com ) is presenting the following challenge to the Arabian / Half-Arabian/Anglo Arabian Endurance community.
Join an AHA Region XII “local” club (www.aharegion12.com/clubs/index.html) as a “Competition” member, ride a registered Arabian / Half-Arabian/Anglo Arabian in an AERC and AHA Sanctioned Endurance Ride (LD’s included) in three (3) Region XII states (FL, SC, NC, TN, MS, AL, GA) and receive a Region XII Endurance Challenge Bronze Level Polo Shirt. Ride in four (4) states and receive a Region XII Endurance Challenge Silver Level Hay Bag with R12 logo. Ride in five (5) states and receive a Region XII Endurance Challenge Gold Level Bale Bag with R12 logo. A Region XII Endurance Challenge Championship Blanket will be awarded to the rider with the highest mileage occurring within the region, who has ridden in at least five (5) states. There will be one high mileage award for endurance and one high mileage award for limited distance. The miles track with the rider as long as you rode a registered Arab, registered Half or registered Anglo Arabian.
Sound easy? That is how it should sound. This is Region XII’s way of asking for your support in promoting Arabian / Half-Arabian/Anglo Arabian horses as the world’s most lovable, and versatile breed. QUESTIONS: Call Eric Rueter 865.599.3594 or EMAIL (eric@rueterconsultinginc.com) or call Cheryl Van Deusen 386.566.4820 or EMAIL (cvandeusen@gmail.com) or EMAIL (R12Endurance@gmail.com).
The Arabian / Half-Arabian/Anglo Arabian Endurance community has complained long and hard that AHA does not do anything for them; at least Region XII has heard you! And now is your chance to show Region XII that they were right in listening! Become an AHA competition member through a local AHA affiliate club (www.aharegion12.com/clubs/index.html), load up your horse and RIDE! There will be local club AHA membership forms available or you can join through Arabian Distance Riders Club (AHA # 12277) by filling out a form or joining on line through www.ArabianHorses.org – a one year membership costs $65 for adults. You may call AHA at 303.696.4500 if you wish to join over the phone Monday –Friday. THIS MEMBERSHIP INCLUDES THE LIABILITY THAT YOU HAVE TO PAY AN EXTRA $20 FOR THROUGH AERC!

REGION 12 DISTANCE ROUND-UP 2009
In a brave undertaking, Region 12 led AHA into a new distance format of a region hosting all regional distance championships the same week, combining competitive trail rides (CTR) and endurance rides, rather than piggy backing on existing rides. The Chester, GA location was chosen because of its central location within the seven states of R12 and the EXCEPTIONAL HOSPITALITY of the entire Perry clan.
From March 26-29, Region 12 hosted 11 rides which was actually 17 different rides given that open rides and regional championship rides were held concurrently! Scenic trails in central Georgia located near the Horse Creek Winery made for an exceptional venue. Wonderful food and wine tastings were offered each evening.
On Thursday, the 50 mile open AERC ride and the AHA R12 50 mile Endurance Championships were held. The regional ride drew 22 entries in the Arabian and Half-Arabian divisions, making it one of the largest regional rides held in recent years. Photos of the champions are shown. In addition, a 25-mile limited distance ride AERC ride was held.
On Friday, 25 mile and 50 mile AERC rides were held, recognized by AHA as local rides. The Region also hosted an open AHA CTR ride so that horses could get qualified for the R12 CTR Championship which was held on Sunday. The R12 CTR Championship was a 25 mile ride (shortened due to the re-routing of the trail after the 13 inches of rain on Saturday) offering both Arabian and Half-Arabian Divisions. Sunday was a beautiful day after the torrential and long-lived downpour on Saturday.
Did we mention rain? We mean rain, more rain, more rain, and mud as the ground was completely saturated by the 14 inches of rain the trail had received in the previous two weeks. Mother Nature came to visit with a vengeance about 15 minutes into the 100 and 75 mile rides at 6:00 am on Saturday morning and. the rain did not let up for over 10 hours! On Saturday, the R12 AHA 100 mile regional championship was held along with a 25, 50 and 75 mile AHA recognized rides. We threw in 4 FEI rides on Friday and Saturday to assist Region 12 members and USEF members trying for qualifications for the World Equestrian Games which will be held in Kentucky, on September 26, 2010. There will be only FIVE USA riders on the team and currently 105 people are on the endurance rider ranking list trying to accumulate qualifications for selection. Riders from Canada and Japan joined Americans on the course and SLOGGED through the steady downpour, coupled with heavy lightning. Ultimately, the 100 mile course and the 75 mile rides had to be shortened for safety. Full results are available to AHA members on the AHA website.
