Region 12 Members:

On Saturday December 13, 2008, a Region 12 Futurity Committee meeting was held in Clayton, Georgia.  Attendees of the meeting were Charles A Moseley; Chairman, Ed Horton, Mary Alice Hudson and Ken Staton who was our host.  Participating by phone were Mohamed Ghatas and Mickey Wamble. 

The Region 12 futurity has been slowly dying over the last few years with a lack of participation at our Regional show and fewer and fewer new futurity nominations. The futurity committee met with the expectation to achieve specific goals.  These goals were to increase the participation of our Region 12 membership in the futurity, increase the payouts to participants and to make the futurity more prestigious.  Although the committee was not unanimous in its thinking, after hours of discussion and all alternatives considered, we could not find a suitable way to reach these goals.  The committee continued to discuss these issues during the following weeks.  After careful consideration and a vote of the committee we recommended to Region 12 Director, George Attwood, that the Region 12 futurity be dissolved as we know it. This decision was made due to a lack of current participation and no good way to encourage future participation. The Region 12 Executive Committee has voted to accept our recommendation.  No new entries will be accepted and all monies received this year for new entrees will be returned.  The renewal fee for previously entered horses will be accepted and classes for previously entered horses will be included in our Region 12 show until we have fulfilled our responsibility to prior year’s entries.  That would mean that the Regional Show Committee would eliminate classes until 2013 when as five year old performance horses the last class of futurity horses would be shown.  Once the Region’s responsibility to previously entered horses is over all remaining money available in the futurity account will be turned over to the Executive Committee to decide how it will be used. 

Mary Alice Hudson will continue to serve as the facilitator of all entries as she has done in the past.  She has done a great job keeping up with all of the records for the futurity and she will see it thru to its ending.  Furthermore, the committee has recommended a new jackpot futurity and several new ideas to the executive committee.  Further discussion and consideration will take place in the future.
